Yesterday at her campaign stop in Texas for Rick Perry, Palin had " Hi Mom" written in big letters on her left hand. She also told Chris Wallace that the best way for Obama to raise his standing among the American people is to declare war on Iran. I think we need to stop laughing at her and start working on how to make her disappear into obscurity. Look at how "yep I'm going to DC in my pick em up truck" worked for Brown. The more we mock her, the more her stature rises among the imbecile teabag birther christian fundie crowd. Anything can happen if she were to become a leader in the primaries. We laughed about Reagan, we laughed about Bush Jr, and look what we got. I'm just sayin, maybe we shouldn't just laugh about her too.

The fathomless ignorance of Sarah Palin is flabbergasting in its scope. "We need a Commander-in-Chief, not a professor of law standing at the lectern." A horde of teabagging morons burst into thunderous applause. Well, who founded this country? Of the 55 delegates to the Philadelphia Constitutional Convention, no less than 34 were lawyers. Of the first 12 Presidents, all but two were lawyers. One of the non-lawyers was George Washington, and the other was William Henry Harrison, who died after only a month in office. So, from so from March 4, 1797 to March 4, 1849, there was about a month when there was not a lawyer as president.

Of the subsequent Presidents, who saved the nation time and again? Well, first, we have Abraham Lincoln. A lawyer. Who won World War II? Woodrow Wilson, a professor of law. Who won World War II? Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Another lawyer.

You would think people who screech incessantly about the "Founding Fathers" would know something about who they were.

A professor of law is exactly the Commander-in-Chief we need right now. The absolute last person we need as President is a blisteringly stupid cretin like Sarah Palin.

She just got a gig on Fox. She's not going to disappear.

I think mockery is the only thing to do.

Didja hear Gretchen Carlson tell us that she believe Sarah wrote it on her hand on purpose to show the people she doesn't need a teleprompter. uh huh. She can just talk "off the cuff".

Sooner or later they will run out of excuses.

Which is strange to me, since in her speech at the Teabaggers' convention she mocked the "lamestream media".

She's part of the mainstream media. How does she reconcile hating the media and blaming them for all of her troubles and being a commentator on a cable news program? ](*,)

The same way Republicans, from Reagan on (and to some extent before then), continually run on platforms claiming to oppose the government, in order to get elected to. . .the government! Then, having run on a platform that the government is incompetent to achieve anything, they do their best to prove it by being completely incompetent.

I've always been a wild-eyed optimist, but something tells me Dear Sarah isn't going to last long in her cushy new gig and, having gotten an in-home studio out of Faux, will become a quitter within a year. It's too hard, comin' up with new stuff all the time.
In the councils of government we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

My only problem with this is that it gives her a platform to spew insane gibberish that will turn off even many Republicans. The reason I find that problematic is I want her to get the Republican nomination and then be completely unelectable or, better, run as a third party spoiler and split the Republican vote, or at least run such a nasty, mud-slinging primary campaign that whoever does get the nomination is too dinged up to win.

I would favor whatever outcome has the greatest chance of destroying the Republican Party as it now exists so that a respectable party can arise in its wake. I think the third party outcome has the best chance of doing that, but destruction from within might be as effective. Her losing the nomination would more or less keep the Republican Party as it now exists intact, which would be bad for the country.

The higher ups in the Republican Party will never allow her to be the nominee. I think they have a truckload of dirt on her and will use it when it's absolutely necessary.

I believe you're right. I keep saying that Sarah Palin doesn't have what it takes to make it through primary season anyway. Sure, she's the darling of the wingnut end of the conservative movement and Republicans generally walk in lockstep with each other -- with the exception being during election season. Sarah's used to throwing out nasty comments about Democrats and the media, but just wait until the big boys and girls in her own party start gunning for her during the primaries (assuming she runs). She won't be Darling Sarah anymore, she'll be the competition, and I don't think Mitt, Huck, and the rest will hold back on her. Palin doesn't know what it's like to come under fire with people who are on the same side she is and I expect 2012 to give us some highly entertaining Republican campaigning.

I hope so. but I hope they use that dirt before she wins one of the early caucuses or it will get away from them. I read an interesting take on the writing on the hand, and it ties back to the Nellie Olson hair-do on Oprah a couple weeks ago: There are people behind the scenes at these events that their whole job is to make sure the next big speaker doesn't have spinach in his teeth or a run in her stockings before they take the stage. Someone who is supposed to notice these things must have seen the "hand writing" and let her go out to a room full of HiDef cameras without telling her, "ooo, no no". Just like someone at her house with the Oprah organization saw her hair before she went on camera and didn't tell her how ridiculous she looked. Or, even worse, it was pointed out to her, and she ignored it.

Maybe the more we see of her, the more apparent it will be that she is the mental age of a 14 year old. You can tell her FoxNews colleagues don't even know what to make of her. Chris Wallace, Glenn Beck, O'Reilly have all tried to lead her through softball interviews that would frame her in a good light, but she refuses to follow their lead.

shrek, you did:
Code: Select all
[com]http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/mon-february-8-2010/amerigasm[/com]

The Daily Show is weird to embed. You have to copy that big long bunch of numbers and just pull out the episode number. I mean you have to click on the button that says 'embed - "copy code", not the button that says copy link. (I don't think the Colbert Show is so hard. You might be able to get the episode number from the link button. I don't remember.) Anyway, you have to copy this. I'm just coloring the number to look for:

<table style='font:11px arial; color:#333; background-color:#f5f5f5' cellpadding='0' cellspacing='0' width='360' height='353'><tbody><tr style='background-color:#e5e5e5' valign='middle'><td style='padding:2px 1px 0px 5px;'><a target='_blank' style='color:#333; text-decoration:none; font-weight:bold;' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com'>The Daily Show With Jon Stewart</a></td><td style='padding:2px 5px 0px 5px; text-align:right; font-weight:bold;'>Mon - Thurs 11p / 10c</td></tr><tr style='height:14px;' valign='middle'><td style='padding:2px 1px 0px 5px;' colspan='2'<a target='_blank' style='color:#333; text-decoration:none; font-weight:bold;' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/mon-february-8-2010/amerigasm'>AmeriGasm<a></td></tr><tr style='height:14px; background-color:#353535' valign='middle'><td colspan='2' style='padding:2px 5px 0px 5px; width:360px; overflow:hidden; text-align:right'><a target='_blank' style='color:#96deff; text-decoration:none; font-weight:bold;' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/'>www.thedailyshow.com</a></td></tr><tr valign='middle'><td style='padding:0px;' colspan='2'><embed style='display:block' src='http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:cms:item:comedycentral.com:264204' width='360' height='301' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' wmode='window' allowFullscreen='true' flashvars='autoPlay=false' allowscriptaccess='always' allownetworking='all' bgcolor='#000000'></embed></td></tr><tr style='height:18px;' valign='middle'><td style='padding:0px;' colspan='2'><table style='margin:0px; text-align:center' cellpadding='0' cellspacing='0' width='100%' height='100%'><tr valign='middle'><td style='padding:3px; width:33%;'><a target='_blank' style='font:10px arial; color:#333; text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/full-episodes'>Daily Show<br/> Full Episodes</a></td><td style='padding:3px; width:33%;'><a target='_blank' style='font:10px arial; color:#333; text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.indecisionforever.com'>Political Humor</a></td><td style='padding:3px; width:33%;'><a target='_blank' style='font:10px arial; color:#333; text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/videos/tag/health'>Health Care Crisis</a></td></tr></table></td></tr></tbody></table>

Then pull out the episode number. I colored it so you could see what I mean. (Don't forget to remove that apostrophe.) Just put the episode number between the 'com' tags.

She's campaigning for somebody who's murdered one Texan and is prepared to do it again?

I thought I'd include the Colbert clip as well.

For those of you at work, it's bleeped, but he does call Sarah Palin a "F*cking Retard".

And it seems that the episode number for The Colbert Report is included in the "link". That makes it much easier to find the episode number. From pushing the "copy link" button (as opposed to the "copy code" you have to use for the Daily Show):

Code: Select all
http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/264042/february-08-2010/sarah-palin-uses-a-hand-o-prompter

pull out the episode number.

Code: Select all

The truth is, I don't care for it when people use the word "retard" as a slur against people either.

That said, Sarah Palin is still a hypocrite. And, she used her kid to make political points.

How can she ask for the resignation of Rahm (c'mon, really??? Apology maybe. But resignation?) and then excuse Limbaugh?

Sarah Palin, that was really stupid.

"The unemployment rate this week slipped back into double digits, when 1,076,230 employed Americans who claimed to have at one time or another used the term 'retard' as a slur, resigned their jobs out of respect for Sarah Palin. However, when reached for comment, several of them agreed it was 'very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very unintelligent' to have done so, and they 'wished there was a word for that.' "

They're not YouTube. Is it just here at PJ's that you can't view, or everywhere? Is it a matter of NoScript or something similar?

The only thing I might try would be to click to share the clip, copy the link, and try viewing from the Daily Show site itself.

Else there are lots of sites that embed. Crooks & Liars generally has them, I think.

kate, I'm just thinkin' out loud. I really don't know.

Sarah's parents?

The girl's name Sarah \s(a)- rah\ is pronounced SARE-ah. It is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "princess".

I am going to assume she didn't know that. Because, if she did, that's really kinda whacked.

If she did actually know, I wonder if she thought it would be like "Fried Green Tomatoes" and "Stump"? But it's not.
